Detective Sergeant Joe Saunders will be giving people on twitter (referred to as tweeple), an insight into a shift with Swindon CID.

Joe is responsible for leading a team of five other detectives and keeping an overview of the investigations both he and they are involved in.

The team investigate serious and complex crime including Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH), sexual assaults, serious drugs offences and other incidents such as large scale public disorder.

Joe has been a police officer for 15 years, working in Wiltshire for 7 of these after transferring from Nottinghamshire Police in 2005.

Since joining the force he has completed the roles of Custody Sergeant, Sergeant and Acting Inspector in the Roads Policing Unit, staff officer to the Assistant Chief Constable and manager of the Central Road Safety Unit.

Speaking about his career to date DS Saunders told More: "I've been fortunate to complete many varied roles within the police service. The most important thing for me is to properly understand the value I bring to a role which I do in my current role as a Detective Sergeant.  My team and I see the massive impact crime has on victims and the value that thoroughly investigating these and where appropriate bringing someone before a court to answer for their crime has. This is what I became a police officer to do."

Speaking about the use of social media by the police Joe said: "I see the value of social media, particularly in the sort of work I do. We use Twitter to appeal to the public to help assist us in investigations as well as keeping people up to date with matters that may be important to them."

Outside of work Joe's family keeps him busy but he still finds time to play in a band and has a penchant for pub quizzes.
